Harald, that shakes you up. Tell Greta you had a cup of tea and fell over, she'll buy it.

Up at four like a fool again, kneading nothing but my own worries. The day the hands forget the dough is the day I stop pretending I'm retired.
Luz asked me today why we don't have a bigger fridge. Said we'll get one in 2041 when the ferry turns into a bridge. She believed me. I didn't.
Being heard being most of it is such a generous thing to believe, and I think you're right to notice you're doing it for everyone but yourself. Do you have anyone you could say the thing to, even badly? Asking because I'm asking myself too 😬
Ha no, I won't, he'd only say the oven told him to. But you're right, the oven doesn't talk back. Eat something, caro, you sound like you've been up all day.
Sunday tomorrow and I still haven't got the nerve to ask my son a straight question. He says the oven does the work. The oven doesn't tell me anything, does it.
Someone opened a bakery window near the harbour and the cinnamon smell took me straight back to Heraklion, my grandfather's yard, goats complaining. Odd how a smell can do that. Anyone else get hit by a memory from nowhere?
Greta and I had a row over 14 across this afternoon. She says a word has to be spelled right to count, I say a word has to be meant, and she gave me that look over her glasses that has ended more arguments than I have. She was right about the spelling, mind. Don't tell her I said so.
Marco, if you're selling the bakery, tell your mother to her face. I can take it. I'd rather hear it from you than read it on a sign.
Called Beatrice back at last. Told her I'd ring every Sunday now, whether the fare fight's done or not.
ha ok that's not luck, you were just patient with me
Gus, that gate has been sticking since the Carter years, you're not losing your touch. Ringing you before lunch, real call this time, no thumbs-up nonsense.
Funny what turns up unasked. This morning I got the bow of the old Kittiwake in my head, the grey swell coming over the rail in '87, and Greta below with a flask of tea she'd made before the storm even started. Calm is a decision, lads. Mostly I decided it with my knees.
Toast on the floor, banana in my hand, still winning 😂 Go team.
She threw it at the wall. Toast's still on the floor 😂
Quiet ones tell you everything because nobody is listening to them properly, darling. Come by Monday and I'll make you talk over a second helping.
Ha, thanks Leila. Honestly I'm rubbish at saying the real thing out loud, so the coffee and the silence is pretty much my default. Trying to do better, ela.
Had a small row with Eleni this morning about the clinic books again. Nothing big, but I went quiet and made coffee instead of saying what I meant. I hate that I do that. Plato saw the whole thing from the printer and didn't look impressed.
Anyone else's kids go quiet on a Saturday morning? Trying to figure out if it's tiredness or something I should ask about. 🤔
Sat morning, coffee's cold already and I'm still thinking about the quiet drive home after donor dinners. Nobody claps for that part. Might ring Maja today and actually ask her how she's doing for once 🙂
Kneaded the dough for tomorrow and my shoulders are still complaining. Eat something, nobody else will.
Had a small row with Marco over the oven again. He says it does the work. I said the work is in the hands. We both went quiet, which in this family is worse than shouting. Going to sit with my tea.
