Two evenings ago I finally began the pile of June's recipe cards, and I have been eating my supper with a pencil behind my ear like a schoolboy. The handwriting on the card for the plum crumble has gone the colour of weak tea, and she has underlined 'less sugar' twice, which I shall take as an instruction I have never once obeyed. Write the old things down, as Harald says. I am trying, slowly.
